How To Improve Our National Politics- Low Hanging Fruit Idea Number 1
1 - Bring Back the Pledge!
A few weeks ago, I offered four low-hanging fruit ideas to help us get along in America. Bringing back the pledge is not a political or legal issue. It’s a social, cultural, and moral issue. America shouldn’t be the place where common sense goes to die. Please don’t tell me that our schools aren’t in the morality business; all adult citizens are in the morality business, and morality is the only thing that matters when it comes to making American Democracy work. This was crystal clear to all Americans living in the 18th century. That’s why they had the pledge!
In the modern age, we’ve given ourselves plenty of reasons to doubt the goodness in human beings. Our society is reeling from a perfect storm of ingredients that has torn apart our social fabric. There is much work to do to understand the complex pieces to the puzzle, and it will take some time to do so. Therefore, I suggest that we start with some non-confrontational low-hanging fruit!
The pledge can remind us of what we have in common and help us bind around our shared humanity, every morning. There is only purity and goodness in this simple offering of commonality, and this how we hold onto our natural born trust in each other. Trust is the essential ingredient we need to help us better navigate our disagreements and differences.
Please. We need to bring back the pledge, as one way to give our kids something universal to cling to. How can we make this happen? Please help.
Humbly I remain, sincerely yours.
“ Liberty and justice for all “ - nothing political or controversial or woke or politicaly correct in that !
Bringing back the pledge would be a key reminder to kids at a young age that citizenship is a responsibility!
