Welcome to my Substack.
How do we possibly do all the good we want to do in the world, when it’s hard enough to stay afloat ourselves? How do we even do our part, aside from getting through each day, being the best parent, sibling, or friend that we can? How do we help to improve our national politics, heal and unite as a country?
I guess….. one article at a time. (smile)
I admit that my goals are lofty. (My wife and I are often discussing the idea of my finding another day job!)
Build a research-based curriculum, to prove the natural born goodness in people!
To inspire young people with hope and optimism so that they can bond around their commonalities! Knowing each are worthy of trust!
To prepare young people for the vigors of living together in a large and diverse society!
To end extremism, by teaching how it grows, and preventing it.
To unite a future generation around a core set of beliefs, grounded in the Natural Laws*.
To someday end terrible disagreement and hate forever!
Ushering in a new generation of modest, moderate, confident leaders, will not be easy. However, I think it is possible!
I spent a few years writing a book for kids, to try to help them see reality for what it is. To understand that the toxic political bickering on the national stage is not a reality that they need to accept. My story about why I wrote the book can be found at www.gettingalong.com.
This Substack is offered for adults to engage in deep discussion about the mission statements above. I hope concerned citizens will help bring civility back into our society. This doesn’t mean that we need to agree on all things, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. There will always be things to argue about, but the way we are doing it now is not sustainable. Our new normal is far from normal, and it is bound to kill us all. Plus, it’s embarrassing to be around! It just stinks not to able to talk about difficult things with family and friends. I wish it were easier, and I want to see if we can’t make it easier for our kids to engage in challenging issues of democracy. I’m motivated to do what I can to create better leaders to fix our politics and make the mind-numbing societal noise and confusion go away!
Of course, measurable results will take time. The importance of seeking instrumental change cannot be understated. If you are reading this, you know that we are underperforming, we can do far better, and our kids deserve better!
The real question is how do people like you and me, get through to people who are not reading this?
Thank you for trying to help us solve that one, and Thanks for being here!
I am sincerely yours.
