The following from The Atlantic Article here:

  • “We are drinking from a firehose of falsehoods which keep Americans confused, disoriented, and angry.”

  • “Artificial intelligence is enabling the limitless spread of highly believable disinformation. We are immersed in an ongoing conflict: an Information World War in which state actors, terrorists, and ideological extremists sow discord and erode shared reality… We get a society that ignores context or proportionality”

  • “Social media has dissolved the mortar of trust, belief in institutions, and shared stories that are required to hold a society together”

  • “It’s the continual chipping-away of trust … a democracy depends on widely internalized acceptance of the legitimacy of rules, norms, and institutions … when citizens lose trust in elected leaders, health authorities, the courts, the police, universities, and the integrity of elections.. every election becomes a life-and-death struggle to save the country from the other side.”

We’ve been traumatized as a society by the sheer mass of information flow and our inability to effectively process it.
